COATING TYPES AND PROPERTIES USED FOR FOOD PACKAGING

GLASS COATING
What is coated coating? The type of coating made for the paper to gain certain properties such as surface brightness, smoothness and weight is called coated coating. Coated paper is obtained by applying the coating to one or both surfaces of the paper. Coating of coated paper, which has a glossy and slippery surface, can be either matte or glossy. Coated paper generally produces sharper, brighter images and has better reflections than uncoated paper. It is used in the printing of works such as magazines, brochures and posters in daily life.
CLAY COATING
What is Clay coating? It is cardboard coated on one or both sides with refined clay. Coating can be done in white and kraft cardboard. The clay fills the spaces between the fibers in the cardboard, which increases the smoothness of the finished cardboard. Clay also improves the opacity, gloss and ink receptivity of paperboard, producing high-quality printing results. This type of cardboard is preferred by food manufacturers who want to bring their brands to the forefront and who want to achieve high resolution printing quality. For this reason, it usually appears as white cardboard.
CELEPHON COATING
What is cellophane coating? Cellophone is a recyclable, thin and transparent plastic film made from artificial cellulose, used for packaging industrial products and foodstuffs. Low permeability to air, light, water, acid, oil and bacteria; makes it useful for food packaging. It gives aesthetically shine and vitality to cardboard. The cellophane coating protects the cardboard against heat and moisture. It does not react with any food, it does not change the taste or smell of the food in any way. It can be applied as matte or glossy. However, it cannot be applied on paper thinner than 135 grams. In addition, since it is not used in shaping round products, it is only applied in packages with glue sticking or setting up. cellophane coating; It is applied to the inner surface and is preferred in the packaging of foods with syrup, oily, acidic presentations. Thanks to its airtightness, it helps foodstuffs to be stored healthier and longer.
POLYETHYLENE (PE) COATING
What is polyethylene coating? Polyethylene (PE) film is a chemically produced thin film with a thickness of not more than 0.04 cm. PE film is the most widely used coating material for cardboard packaging. PE coating is available in two forms as matte and glossy. Single-sided or double-sided coating can be done. The cardboard coated with PE becomes very flexible and sturdy. PE coating contributes to branding by facilitating better quality writing of product information on the package.
PE coating cardboard is safe for food contact. It does not react with any food, it does not change the taste or smell of the food in any way. PE film makes the cardboard packaging resistant to water, moisture and oil, keeps the outer surface of the packaging dry and oil-free. The main areas of use in cardboard packaging are glasses, salad and soup bowls, lunch boxes and lids.
POLIPROPYLENE (PP) COATING
What is polypropylene coating? PP coating is suitable for deep freezer. Good sealing properties ensure performance in use. Due to its high temperature resistance up to 170 degrees, packages covered with polypropylene are also suitable for use in the microwave.
CPET COATING
What is PET coating? PET coatings, which provide extremely good heat resistance to cardboard, provide excellent barrier properties to oil and oxygen. Therefore, PET coated cardboard is suitable for packaging applications where temperature resistance and oil barrier are important.
